Files KML

It is now possible to import and export KML files from the AdminOLT system.

¿What are KML files?

A KML (Keyhole Markup Language) file is an XML-based format used to represent geospatial data, mainly in mapping applications. Google Earth, Google Maps, and other GIS (Geographic Information Systems) can read and display KML files, which contain information about locations, routes, polygons, and other spatial data.

Key elements in a KML file include:

  • Placemark: Specific points on the map, such as a particular location (can represent cities, monuments, etc.).
  • Folder: Used to organize multiple elements into sections or categories.
  • LineString: Represents a line, used for paths or routes.

The structure of a KML file allows this information to be stored in XML tags and also supports styles to customize colors, icons, and other display features on the map.

¿What are the advantages of using them?

Using KML files has several advantages, especially when working with geospatial data in mapping applications. Some of the most notable advantages are:

  • Compatibility and standardization
  • Visualization and organization of geospatial data
  • Style customization
  • Lightweight and efficient
  • Scalability and ease of updates

¿How to import a map?

In AdminOLT you can import maps from other AdminOLT accounts or from other systems that offer KML files. If you are going to export a file from AdminOLT it is recommended that you do not do it in the same account to avoid duplicate data.

1 Configure how to import the file

If it is from the AdminOLT system, the following options will be available:

  • Directories: The folder in your map where all map information will be saved
  • External File: Verify the source of the file
  • KML File

If it is from an external system, the previous options will be available, as well as:

  • Cable Type: If there are connections or line elements, AdminOLT will import all of them according to an existing Cable Type in your account
  • Marker Type: If there are marker elements, AdminOLT will import all of them according to a Marker Type (OLT, NAP, Building, ONU, etc.)
